The pizza was delicious. We got the figgie and added bacon to it; we also got it as a pan pizza, though we would totally try the New York Style. It's a beautiful balance of sweet, salty, and savory with just a bit of freshness from the arugula. The breadsticks were also good. Service was immaculate as the person who took our order was witty and patient despite the fact they had been there since 10 AM (we arrived at around 7:30). At some point they what to deal with someone over the phone; I don't know what that person's experience of them was, but from our end it sounded like they were saying everything right. The atmosphere was non-existent considering that it's basically takeout only, but there were pinball machines,m so that's automatically 4 stars.
My partner and I have eaten at the food truck several times now and the pizza (and service!!!) has been consistently great. We always get the cool it down (I love the NY style but he prefers the pan) with a couple of drinks at Hop City and it makes for a great night out! Easily some of the best pizza in Birmingham and we will continue to be regulars.
Uncle G's Pizza is Awesome! A Must-Try in Hoover! Uncle G's Pizza is truly awesome! The food is incredible, and the entire Hoover store is ridiculously clean—which I really appreciate. They have great daily deals; a huge shout-out for the BOGO pizzas on Wednesdays! I ate my pizza too fast to snap a photo, but that cookie with the ice cream was an excellent way to finish. A big bonus is that they make their own dough in-house, and you can see how clean and organized the preparation room is. I was most impressed by the restroom, which is a rare find in a casual Birmingham pizza spot. This place is clean, inviting, and serves great food. I loved the mini arcade with the pinball machines, too. I will be back for sure! Ps if you all read these let's do a wine night special, you have all those bottles tempting me now push me over the edge with a deal.
Soooo I finally decided to stop by based on reviews and I love pizza and cheese mmmmmmmm. Not only was customer service through the roof, but the pizza was soooo delicious and flavorful I ended up getting 2 slices and left full. The joint was clean, very welcoming and a place to be with friends. I for sure will return to try the Detroit pizza with pineapples added🤪🤭💅🫶🍍
Ordered take out. Got the Figgy and a Build your own. Both were delicious. My favorite thing: cold toppings on the side so they aren’t mush when you get home! I love it. The Figgy was excellent - the perfect amount of prosciutto and fig. Love the sweet bites from the fig. And the arugula, feta, and Balsamic glaze are the perfect complement to the fig and prosciutto. Will definitely be back!
Picked up two pizzas at Hop City. Visiting from Michigan, and consider myself a Detroit style connoisseur. Uncle G’s nails it. Crispy edges with fluffy dough. “The Dal” was absolutely divine.
After seeing this thing pop up advertising I decided I had to try it so we came here for a special day and it did not disappoint. They are known for their square deep dish and you can order each slice different. I tried four different slices and they were awesome. Now I cut these slices in half to share with other people. I also ordered th,,e cheese bread which was fabulous. The sauce was very tangy and actually had tomatoes inside.. the place was very clean and everything was fresh. So far this is the best pizza place I have been in Alabama. They even support local artists.
Uncle G’s pizza 🍕 is the real deal. This has to be some of the best pizza around here not to mention the best Detroit style pizza. The ingredients are all extremely high quality and the crusts on both the normal and the crispy thin were absolutely perfect. You can tell that this food denotes a dedication to their craft.

The story
George Gilliam, better known around here as Uncle G, did not come from a big restaurant group or a fancy culinary background. He started making pizza during the pandemic, learning from online pizza communities, YouTube, trial and error, and a whole lot of dough that did not always cooperate. Before Uncle G's, George worked in live music and entertainment. When COVID put that world on hold, pizza became the thing he kept coming back to.
